20s and 30s Architecture

There are many examples of avant-garde architecture from the 1930s. By the 1940s and 50s style appears to have regressed and it's not until the 1960s that it recovers. The 70s and 80s will largely be remembered as another regressive period filled with kitch. During my childhood in the 50s it never ceased to amaze me that the freshness and optimism of the 30s was abandoned. Looking at Le Corbusier's Villa Savoye and Villa La Roche today it is only the small details of the design that appear to have aged.
